Theatre Program
The Drama program offers a rich curriculum for the beginning and experienced performer. Theatre Arts Workshop, Drama lab, and Introduction to Theatre are the drama/acting courses, Stage Design/Production trains our talented stage technicians and designers, and our Film & Cinema class has evolved from a history of film course to one in which students also produce their own video classics.

The central events of the school year 2003-04 included the Fall play production of The Daughters of the Lone Star State, as well as a full production of the operetta/musical The Pirates of Penzance in the Spring and numerous smaller performances in Salter Theatre.

BIG CHANGES!

Peters Auditorium received a major overhaul just five years ago! New Rigging, curtains, stage floor, dimmers, a motorized orchestra pit, and completely restored seating. Thanks to a major grant from the City of Beverly Hills and a much-needed bond issue passed by our voters, our auditorium is better than ever! The new equipment has completely changed the way we do things, and the auditorium is in ever greater demand as a venue for ballet, music and more on the Westside of Los Angeles.

The latest local bond issue places us in position to complete the renovation projects by installing a brand new sound system, the one major piece that was not previously completed. In Fall of 2004, the new system is being completed, providing BHHS with one of the finest systems in any high school we have seen.

Classes
Over the years, BHHS Performing Arts students have been visited by such stars as Richard Dreyfuss, (one of our alumni!), John Rubinstein (the original "Pippin"), Shirley Jones (star of the movies Carousel and Oklahoma), Robert Morse (from How To Succeed), Joanna Gleason (Tony award winner for Into the Woods, Meredith Willson (composer of The Music Man) and many other industry greats.

We are proud of the fact that many of our graduates have continued with careers in the arts. A partial list of those we know about is found on our website.
