Attendance FAQs

Q: What is the correct procedure to get a student excused from class for a doctor's appointment?

A: The parent or guardian is to call the morning of the doctor's appointment and advise the Attendance Office as to the time the student is to leave. The Attendance Office will then advise the parent/guardian that a doctor's note will be required when student returns to campus, and that the absence is not excused until the doctor's note is received. The student then comes in to pick up their permit to leave campus.

Q: Does the school call the parent to verify notes for appointments?

A: Yes.

Q: Are DMV appointments excused absences?

A: No, DMV appointments are UNEXCUSED per the attendance policy.

Q: Is travel an excused absence?

A: No, travel is UNEXCUSED per the attendance policy.

Q: Can students leave campus for lunch?

A: No.

Q: Where can I find more information on attendance policies?

A: Complete information can be found in the current issue of the Norman Guide.

Tardiness

Students arriving late to their first class MUST check in to the Attendance Office to obtain a tardy pass. Students are considered tardy if they arrive late to class without an excused, written note from a school official. Tardiness may result in penalties. See the current issue of the Norman Guide for more information.
