MSA's Year 2 Course- Biotechnology

MSA's Year 2 Biotechnology course is a UC approved Lab Science course focusing on lab skills with medical applications.  It is the study and manipulation of living things or their component molecules, cells, tissues, or organs, with an emphasis on lab skills.  Amgen provides reagents for students to work with recombinant DNA (rDNA) technology and polymerase chain reaction (PCR).  In addition students complete labs in Bioinformatics, ELISA, Culture & Sensitivity, vaccines using recombinant DNA, genetics using gel electrophoresis and much more. 

All MSA Year 2 students are required volunteer for 40 hours during the academic year.  Students have the following choices to volunteer:

1) Cedars-Sinai Teen Volunteer Program

2)UCLA Student Volunteer Program

3)Placement in Child Life Program at UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital.

Students volunteer during the academic year, October- April for 2 hours per week at Cedars and possibly year round at UCLA.
