Medical Science Academy
Beverly Hills High School
The Medical Science Academy is a 3-year multi-disciplinary program incorporating college preparatory academics as well as exposure to careers in the Medical, Science and Healthcare fields. MSA offers opportunities for students to volunteer in various health care departments at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Students will experience real-life situations within a healthcare setting. In addition, the program may offer the opportunity for students to be involved in internships, conferences, field trips and guest speakers from the Medical and Science community.
The Medical Science Academy strongly emphasizes high standards of professionalism especially when volunteering with patients at Cedars. MSA has incorporated The Beverly Way, which includes the following characteristics; RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, INTEGRITY, CARING and CITIZENSHIP.
The application process begins second semester of students’ 9th grade year. Once accepted into the program, students begin coursework in the 10th grade.
The Medical Science Academy was implemented in the Fall of 2012. Over the years the Coordinator of MSA, Colleen Lynch, has carefully selected and continues to improve curriculum that exposes students to a wide variety of clinical and laboratory content, techniques and skills within the medical field. Additionally, the MSA program continues to build relationships with our local medical community which may offer students unique experiences within the medical field.Colleen Lynch graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics/Nutrition from the University of Rhode Island. She has enjoyed teaching Health, Biology, Honors and Regular Physiology, Introduction to Medical Science and Biotechnology at Beverly Hills High School since 2001.
