Introduction

Hello! My name is Courtney Scott! I graduated from University of California, Los Angeles in the spring of 2019 with a major in Psychology and a minor in Education Studies. In 2021, I received my Single Subject Teaching Credential in Mathematics from California State University, Long Beach. I am very excited to be a math teacher at Beverly Hills High School! Ever since I started tutoring in Pre-Calculus in high school I have felt like I should be a teacher. I loved helping students understand math in their own way and learn new problem-solving strategies. Now, I want to translate my love for helping students to a larger scale. Through volunteering and observation hours, I have furthered my belief that the classroom is where I belong. I have been inspired by amazing math teachers who learn as much from the students as the students learn from them, who encourage their students to participate in active learning, and who care about the "whole child" rather than just student math scores. I have a passion for encouraging students to love math and showing students that everyone is capable of understanding math concepts. I look forward to experimenting with different types of math lessons and finding the best way to manage my classroom based on my students' needs. I look to be a culturally responsive teacher who provides her students with the tools to succeed, implements students culture and interests into lessons, and shows students that making mistakes is the first step to improving skills. Through my vast fieldwork experience, knowledge I have gained through my classes at CSULB, and my student teaching practice at Gahr High School, I am fully prepared to run my own classroom and instill mathematical knowledge in all learners.
