ONE OF THE BEST COLLEGE COUNSELING EVENTS OF THE YEAR! ALL 9TH AND 11TH GRADE STUDENTS AND PARENTS/GUARDIANS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND. PARTICIPANTS ARE PLACED IN SMALL "ADMISSIONS COMMITTEES" TO REVIEW 3 CANDIDATES WITH A COLLEGE ADMISSIONS OFFICER. AS A GROUP, YOU REVIEW ALL ASPECTS OF THE APPLICATION AND DETERMINE HOW THE CANDIDATES COMPARE TO THE UNIVERSITY PROFILE IN ORDER TO DECIDE WHO SHOULD BE ADMITTED, DENIED, AND WAIT-LISTED.
OVERVIEW:
- All participants should read the 3 sample college admissions applications prior to the event.
- The sample applications will be discussed in small groups led by a college admissions officer. As a group, you will decide which students will be accepted, denied, or deferred.
You will learn the following:
- What colleges look for in an applicant
- What colleges value academically and how a student spends their free time
- How difficult it is to choose between applicants
- How students can evaluate their own strengths, skills, and qualities they bring to the process and how to convey them on their college application
