Description: Thursday 5/21 and Friday 5/22 - Senior Cap and Gown Distribution/Locker Cleanout: We would be looking at bringing seniors on campus these days to drive through and pick up yearbooks, and caps & gowns utilizing both parking structures.  We would hope to exit students using all 3 gates onto Heath (two in P1 and the one from P2)  They would also be given the opportunity to clean out their lockers.

Dear Seniors and Senior Families,

For months, your Senior Class Officers, ASB Director Ms. Goolsby, administrators, KBEV, PTSA, BHEF, and members of our District Office have been creating a variety of plans to celebrate your graduation from BHHS.  As we have continued to adjust based on the newest recommendations and orders from state and local agencies, we have designed several modified or new events based on potential health and safety scenarios.  During this uncertain time, foremost in our minds has been you - our graduating seniors - and the experiences we can still provide.  It does feel like each time we come up with a new plan, we all have to pivot again and get used to yet another curveball.  As we know you all are, we are now feeling the loss of Diploma Drive, which we had high hopes for as a culminating celebration for the class of 2020.

At this point, we have a plan for the remaining events that will involve our seniors, some of which do involve coming to campus, explained in detail in this letter.  Any drive-through situation on campus necessitates that people remain in their cars, unless clearing a locker, and everyone in the car must be wearing a mask.   We ask that all students bring no more than one adult with them, and there should only be members of the same family in each car.  If non-family related students come together, they will be asked to leave campus and return individually.  We also ask that each vehicle please have an 8½ x 11 sheet of paper with the student name and 5-digit student ID (if possible) on the dashboard so that we can reduce the need for verbal conversations.  This is essential in order for us to maintain social distancing and safety best practices as set forth by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.  Remember, with school closed, it will be important for you to take advantage of each of these opportunities on the dates that they are available.  We cannot be sure of our ability to accomodate “make-up” dates.

Thursday, May 21st (11 am - 3 pm) and Friday, May 22nd (9 am - 1 pm): Locker Clearance, Cap and Gown/Honor Cord Distribution, and Senior Checkout Forms/Fee Letters.

On these two days, seniors will be invited to “drive-thru” campus to take care of these vital tasks.  When students come to campus, they will drive onto campus and proceed to the student parking structure (P1).  All students will be required to observe the 6 foot social distancing norms, and to be wearing masks/face coverings.  At this point, each car will park in an available space, and students will be required to follow directions from campus Security Staff as to which stairwells they will use.  Students will then enter the staircase, one at a time, and proceed to their lockers using routes following posted arrows and signs, and with direction from staff.  Students will then clear out their lockers, and bring all items back to their vehicle using the correct staircase in returning to P1 and their vehicles.  If students come to school with a parent, we ask that the parent remain in the car while the student alone clears out their locker.

Once the student is done clearing their locker, and has returned to their vehicle, they will then exit P1 and drive down Heath Ave. towards the school exit at Moreno and Durant.  They will then stop in front of the STC courtyard, where staff will be waiting to pass students their cap and gown package, and speciality cords if applicable.  We ask students to bring their student ID, so that we can be sure we are giving the correct items to the correct student. The 8 ½ x 11 paper with student name and 5-digit student ID on your car dashboard can make this process even easier.

At this same station, students will be given their senior checkout sheet and fee letters.  (All fees, computers, and books must be collected or resolved by Senior Checkout on May 29 and June 1.)  These letters will guide students through all of the steps that they must take to ensure final checkout in order to receive their diploma, and will include a list of all outstanding textbooks, library materials, student laptops/cases/chargers, athletic/band uniforms and equipment, and any outstanding fines accrued at BHHS through the student store.  Students will then exit campus, turning right on Moreno Dr., and return safely home.

Friday, May 29th (11 am - 3 pm) and Monday, June 1st (9 am - 1 pm): Yearbook Distribution, Diploma Cover and Graduation Program Distribution, Senior Checkout and Materials/Equipment Return.

On this day, seniors will be invited to return to campus for the final time as students!  All students will be required to observe the 6 foot social distancing norms, and to be wearing masks/face coverings.  We ask that all students bring no more than one adult with them, and there should only be members of the same family in each car.  If non-family related students come together, they will be asked to leave campus and return individually.  Students will drive onto campus and be directed to either the student (P1) or staff (P2) parking lots based on last names.  Once there, we will be doing a “drive-thru” style one-stop-shop.   Students will remain in their cars at each station.  At individual stations, students will be able to do all of the following:

  • Return textbooks/library books and materials

  • Return personal 1-1 laptop and related equipment (laptop case and charger)

  • Return band uniforms/equipment

  • Receive diploma cover and graduation program

The student will then exit either parking garage, and proceed down Heath Ave. towards the main gate.  Similar to receiving their cap and gown, students who have purchased a yearbook will stop at the station in front of the STC courtyard to receive their yearbook.  Once they have completed this, they will then exit school by turning right onto Moreno Dr.  If a student wishes to purchase a yearbook, and has not prior to coming to campus, they will be able to do this at the station in the left exit of the driveway, and then will exit campus by turning left onto Moreno, or by going straight onto Durant Dr.  Our yearbook rep will accept credit cards for this purchase, so please come prepared for this; first-come, first-served for our limited remaining supply.

If a student is an athlete and needs to clear out an athletic locker, and/or return athletic uniforms or equipment, they will proceed along Moreno Dr. to the Swim Gym parking lot.  Once there, if they only need to return uniforms and equipment, they will do so following directions from athletic staff.  If they also need to clear a sports locker, they will then be directed as to where to park, and how to proceed to the locker room to retrieve items.
