Medical Science Academy
Beverly Hills High School
The Medical Science Academy is a 3-year multi-disciplinary program incorporating college preparatory academics, leadership and service for college and career preparedness.
Academics: Introduction to Medical Science and Biotechnology are UC approved Laboratory science courses. Intro to Med Science incorporates clinical content involving patients and the healthcare field and it fulfills the Health Education Graduation requirement. In Biotechnology students learn lab skills and are exposed to the possibilities in medial research.
Leadership: MSA students hold leadership positions that engage our local medical community within our school environment and students create school events related to the medical field.
Service: All MSA students volunteer at either Cedars-Sinai Medical Center or UCLA Medical Center. MSA students have the option to be exclusively placed at the Child Life Program at UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital. Student experience real-life scenarios within a large healthcare facility.
The Medical Science Academy strongly emphasizes high standards of professionalism especially when volunteering with patients at Cedars. MSA has incorporated The Beverly Way, which includes the following characteristics; RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, INTEGRITY, CARING and CITIZENSHIP.
In addition, the program may offer the opportunity for students to be involved in internships, conferences, field trips and guest speakers from the Medical and Science community.
The application process begins second semester of students’ 9th or 10th grade year. Once accepted into the program, students begin coursework in the 10thor 11th grade.
The Medical Science Academy was implemented in the Fall of 2012. Over the years the Coordinator of MSA, Colleen Lynch, has carefully selected and continues to improve curriculum and experiences that exposes students to a wide variety of clinical and laboratory content, techniques and skills within the medical field. Additionally, the MSA program continues to build relationships with our local medical community which may offer students unique experiences within the medical field.
